SCI-FI Science Camps also recruits high-school students to voluteer as a Counselor-in-Training. They provide assistance to our instructors and help campers with projects!
We would like to invite all Saskatoon and area high school students to apply for a volunteer position as a Counselor-In-Training (CIT) this summer. SCI-FI Science Camps, founded in 1989, has continuously provided a unique approach to introducing Engineering, Science, and Technology to youth of all ages. SCI-FI, along with other Actua camps, continue to show children that science is exciting, challenging, useful, and most of all, FUN!
We will also accept applications for CITs in our mobile camp locations (Prince Albert, Kinderlsey, Yorkton, North Battleford, Lloydminster, Moose Jaw and Muenster).
Beginning in the summer of 2008, Counselors-In-Training will receive a $100 university tuition credit per week for volunteering with SCI-FI Science Camps. This is a tuition credit for the University of Saskatchewan and will be applied once you start university. It has no transferable or redeemable cash value, and can only be applied to tuition fees for the individual who received the credit (the person who volunteered). For example, a CIT who volunteers for four weeks per summer for three summers will have $1200 to contribute towards their university tuition.
Any enthusiastic student who will be finishing grade 9 or higher in the spring of this year's summer. Applicants should demonstrate an interest in science and engineering, have some experience working with children, and possess leadership and teamwork skills.
CITs are high school students who are too old to participate in SCI-FI as a camper, but would rather assist our Instructors with the day-to-day operations of our summer camps. CITs will be responsible for helping instructors with activities as well as assisting campers whenever possible. CITs will also be able to participate in teaching science demonstrations to the campers.
SCI-FI Science Camps is operated at the College of Engineering on the U of S Campus. There are also opportunities to volunteer at our mobile camps all across the province!
Our weeklong day camps run for 8 weeks during July and August starting the first week of July and ending in late August. If you have other commitments during the summer, we will take them into account.
It's a good idea to volunteer at SCI-FI because:
